The National Youthworker Education Project (NYEP) began as an initiative of the University of Minnesota's Center for Youth Development and Research to improve the quality of youth-serving organizations. Based on the conclusions of Project Girl, the NYEP noted that "young people tended not to perceive the opportunities available in the voluntary youth serving organizations."
